By James Blackman -- The city of Philadelphia in the US is deploying lighting, sensors, and networking technologies from Cisco and CIMCON Lighting as it seeks to be “one of the leading smart cities in the United States”.
The new NearSky lighting platform from CIMCON, running lighting controls, air quality monitors, and vehicle and people traffic counters, among other features, is being installed as part of a trial, as the city plots out its SmartCityPHL smart-city initiative.
CIMCON Lighting is providing the lighting controls. Cisco is providing digital surveillance cameras, video analytics software, and networking technology. The trial is on Arch Street, in the city’s downtown. Illinois based public-sector technology solutions provider CDW is supplying the kit to Philadelphia, in all cases.
