Light Where? LIGHTFAIR! #LFI19 was the Best Yet

July 11, 2019 - LIGHTFAIR International is the world’s largest annual architectural and commercial lighting trade show and conference. More than 550 of the most innovative leaders in the lighting industry exhibited. Architects, engineers, designers, planners, manufacturers, and a plethora of other industry professionals from around the world made the trip to the gorgeous city of Philadelphia to see the cutting edge of lighting technology. There were two things we wanted to highlight at this year’s LFI – the innovation award won by NearSky and presentations by our customers Syracuse and Philadelphia on their smart city initiatives.

Innovation award for NearSky

Each year the LIGHTFAIR Innovation Awards recognize products that exhibit the greatest feats of innovation in their respective fields. Our team was proud to receive the LFI Innovation Award in the Controls category for the NearSky platform. The Judges praised NearSky as a “smart city facilitator”, citing its powerful edge computing capabilities and easy installation process. The presenter for the Innovation Awards Winner’s Tour reverberated this praise, calling the NearSky platform “a serious enabler for the future.”

Syracuse and Philadelphia smart city initiatives

The innovation award wasn’t our only achievement during LFI. Leading up to the conference, CIMCON was selected by the city of Philadelphia to run a smart city pilot outside of the convention center. In collaboration with CISCO and CDW, our team installed 16 Smart Lighting Controllers and NearSky 360s. In this project the NearSky 360s will be used to deploy a number of different smart city applications  including  air quality monitoring, pedestrian counting, and  vehicle counting.

Arch streetCIMCON held a press conference with Richard Montanez, the Deputy Commissioner of Transportation for Philadelphia, to discuss the use cases for the scope of the pilot and the potential for a full-scale deployment in the future. CIMCON also hosted a fireside chat with Rebecca Klossner, Sustainability Coordinator of Syracuse, New York, to discuss how CIMCON is being used in their current Syracuse Surge initiative.

Thanks to everyone who made LIGHTFAIR International 2019 a success. See you in 2020!
